TexBoard™ contributes to European circularity dialogue through participation in the TRUSTEX Horizon workshops

TexBoard™ contributed to the TRUSTEX Horizon Europe workshops in Rotterdam, engaging in expert discussions on circularity, EPR, eco-design and Digital Product Passports. The exchange highlighted the importance of open-loop material solutions as a complement to fibre-to-fibre recycling in future European textile policy frameworks.

The transition to a circular textile economy in Europe is entering a decisive phase. With Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes for textiles moving from concept to implementation, policymakers and industry alike are increasingly focused on solutions that are not only innovative, but also scalable and verifiable in practice.

Within this context, the TRUSTEX workshops in Rotterdam brought together experts from research, policy, textile collection, recycling technologies and industry to explore how circularity can be strengthened across the entire textile value chain. The workshops form part of a Horizon Europe–funded initiative aimed at translating foresight into actionable pathways and policy-relevant recommendations.

TexBoard™ was invited to contribute to these discussions, sharing perspectives on the role of open-loop material solutions within future EPR frameworks. This participation reflects the growing recognition that achieving circularity at scale will require a combination of fibre-to-fibre recycling and complementary pathways for textile fractions that cannot be recycled back into fibres.

Across sessions on material flow analysis, eco-design, Digital Product Passports and collection systems, a consistent theme emerged:

robust circular systems depend on diversified end-of-life options that reduce landfill and incineration while delivering measurable environmental outcomes.

TexBoard™ addresses this challenge by transforming post-consumer and industrial textile waste into long-life structural materials. By extending material lifetimes and creating stable secondary material applications, this approach supports key objectives of emerging EPR schemes, including waste reduction, traceability and effective resource utilisation.

The TRUSTEX workshops offered a valuable opportunity to engage in an evidence-based dialogue and to contribute practical insights to a process that will ultimately inform recommendations for policymakers. TexBoard™ welcomes this exchange and looks forward to continuing its constructive role as Europe advances toward a more resilient and circular textile system.
